I came across this interesting photograph of Barry Jackson Tower taken in 1980 yesterday. It's strange to think that this landmark of 43 long years will soon be gone but it was great to hear all the stories of how this building had marked so many lives - in both known and unknown ways.
This work is slowly expanding beyond the "BJT" to explore the issues of social housing in the Aston, Lozells and Newtown region as way of exploring the issue as a whole within Birmingham.
As part of the Big City Plan, this area (Aston, Newtown and Lozells) is where the first new social houses in the city are being built in over 30 years and where for many the Thatcherite dream, or more aptly, the broken promises of social mobility through ownership, for so many, came to nought.
